An Evening Presented by The Fragrance Foundation
Wine, chocolate, fragrance! All in one room.
All on one night.
What a divine combination and the closest thing to heaven on earth that any mere mortal could experience.
Last night at New York’s City Winery, where the downtown elite meet to sip, savor and some even to store the world’s finest vintages, The Fragrance Foundation hosted a wine, chocolate and fragrance pairing that had the audience swooning with sensorial delight.
Now, I must confess and tell you that I work for the Foundation and am reporting for The Perfume Magazine with only the teeniest, tiniest feeling of bias towards my employer.
BUT I challenge anyone present last night to dispute the facts: wondrous wine, delicious food, sensational chocolate and fabulous fragrances were weaved together, explained, sniffed, tasted and sipped by a team of incredibly passionate experts in their respective art.
Over 150 guests, from the industry and the general public, were welcomed by Terry Molnar, Executive Director of The Fragrance Foundation and seated at tables laid with gleaming wine glasses, pristine fragrance blotters, small bottles of unique one-of-a-kind fragrance accords created specifically to complement the wine and food pairings including tempting, silky squares of chocolate that were just a tease for the grand finale, chocoholics dessert buffet.
Joshua Wesson, wine guru, co-founder of Best Cellars, respected sommelier and winner of several awards for wine retail innovation, guided the audience through the tasting of eight wines with great wit and spectacular choice of wines. Andres Barrera, Executive Chef of City Winery, who considers Julia Child his greatest culinary inspiration, created an incredibly delicious four course tasting menu based on the wine and fragrance notes blended by
two perfumer’s extraordinaire:
Patricia Choux from Takasago and Vincent Kuczinski, Vice President, Senior Perfumer, Mane USA.
Patricia discovered perfumery as a child while exploring her grandfather’s garden in Burgundy while Vincent, a chemist by learning and perfumer by nature, easily blends both into an art form he loves. Benjamin Auzimour, CEO Richart USA had the delightful task of teaching us, and urging us to taste, all about the many complex and subtle differences of chocolate as crafted by Richart, a master chocolatier from France. By the end of the evening, guests departed with a greater understanding and appreciation of the finer points of wine, food, fragrance and chocolate.
