Sorry socialites, you truly aren’t a superstar unless there’s a fragrance or three created in your honor. From the late Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor to reality TV’s Kim Kardashian, anyone who’s truly somebody has their fame encapsulated in a crystal bottle. Unfortunately, celebrity fragrances over the years have garnered a bad rep for being sickly sweet, as opposed to, like their fame, dangerously alluring. Some, like Jennifer Lopez, are able to thrive on the market, building a successful empire that goes beyond selling records or movie tickets. However, with hundreds of choices to choose from, it’s difficult to find a celebrity-endorsed fragrance that isn’t too cloying, candied, or simply common. When chart-topping artist Rihanna announced earlier this year that she too would be joining the bandwagon, we weren’t impressed-until we took a whiff of her delicious creation, Reb’l Fleur. Her debut, a tropical variation of the captivating, seductive white tuberose flower, channels her native Barbados with an opening of juicy purple plums transforming into refreshing coconut water and Hawaiian flora, ending with musky vanilla. Just when shoppers though Rihanna couldn’t get bolder, she unveils her second launch, Rebelle, its more bewitching sister.
Rihanna Rebelle Perfume
The second fragrance from Rihanna, the chart-topping, award-winning rockstar and fashion supernova, will launch in February 2012 with an international roll-out following shortly. “My new fragrance is about taking control but still being a lady. There’s a feminine, romantic element to the fragrance - but there’s also a defi ant quality in it. I love its duality”.
Fred Purches, Chairman and CEO of Parlux Fragrances, Inc. remarks: “Rihanna is a phenomenon. More than simply a tremendously popular performer - and a beautiful young woman - she is quickly reaching the pinnacle of today’s popular music scene. Her remarkable talent and bold personal style have made her an icon, yet it is the way she balances strength and femininity that keeps her audience so intrigued. Rebelle, the follow-up to her fi rst fragrance hit, Reb’l Fleur, continues to express her enticing duality. This fragrance, like Rihanna’s music, expresses a fresh, modern sensuality. Indeed, it is very much of the moment as it refl ects the fascination of her fans who expressed themselves online exploring whether they were a
‘Reb’l’ or a ‘Fleur.’ “
THE FRAGRANCE
Sassy or sweet, Rebelle is a delightful enticement bringing to mind not only the warmth of the Carribbean sun, reflecting Barbados-born Rihanna’s roots, but also the exhilarating whirl of her present-day city life. Caroline Sabas and Marypierre Julien, the internationally renowned perfumers behind Reb’l Fleur, have teamed up once again to capture Rihanna’s essence, this time with a lush, sensual Gourmand Chypre. Luscious strawberries and ripe purple plums are enlivened with a jolt of
ginger to create a tantalizing harmony at the top. Then the heart opens, passionate with the heat of exotic allure, intriguing body and soul with notes of tropical splendor: cacao absolute, vanilla orchid and heliotrope. Defi antly sexy, the base notes beguile. Dark and mysterious, they echo like the reggae hook in a Rihanna tune: Rich patchouli fi nds rhythm with the essence of rare coffee beans, creamy musk merges with the aphrodisiac effect of amber...unforgettable becomes an understatement.
THE REBELLE AD CAMPAIGN IMAGERY
Anthony Mandler, music video director, fi lmmaker and frequent collaborator with Rihanna - they have created more than a dozen videos together throughout her career, starting with “Unfaithful” in 2006 and most recently “Man Down” - photographed the Rebelle ad campaign. The imagery he conceived to express Rihanna’s fragrances is dramatic, daring and sexy yet it does not sacrifi ce Rihanna’s vulnerability and softer, more sensitive side. The images are meant to occupy
a modern, sensual space yet transcend traditional expectations: like Rihanna herself, they are surprising, memorable and empowering.
THE REBELLE BOTTLE
The bottle, as dramatically unique as a Rihanna performance, is inspired by the shape of a stiletto heel - a favorite shoe
option for Rihanna. Made feminine with a twisting matte crimson “ribbon” layered over precious metal, the fragrance
appears to glow from within, suffused with a glorious golden aura.

Getting Rebellious: Falling for Rihanna’s Rebelle,
A Yummy Celebrity Scent
“My new fragrance is about taking control, but still being a lady,” says Rihanna. “There’s a feminine, romantic element to the fragrance, but there’s also a defiant quality in it. I love its duality.” If you were expecting any other treat, then you’re in for a major surprise.
Taking cue from her Caribbean roots, Rihanna’s Rebelle is a warm and welcoming aroma that’s rich, luscious, and decadent, like fine cashmere. It opens with notes of sun kissed strawberries and plums, leading to spicy ginger to balance out its juicy sweetness. As the aroma opens, creamy vanilla, cacao absolute from the same dark beans that create chocolate, as well as powdery, violet-hued heliotrope flowers unite, creating a lush tropical island where anything goes. And just when one is ready to embrace this heady, mouthwatering gourmand scent, Rebelle ends with seductive musk, roasted coffee, and earthy patchouli, a sudden jolt only proving it’s a welcoming, yummy treat for the nose.
Whether you love or loathe Rihanna, one thing is certain. Like its muse, Rebelle never fails in surprising. Take one deep breath and rest assure-you’ll never forget it.
