Raphaella founded and created the popular former Sniffapalooza Magazine (now The Perfume Magazine.com) and created the first true perfume magazine of its kind in early 2006 out of a true love for fragrance. Passionately involved, Raphaella has spent the past few years researching and studying fragrance. Under her direction, she has pulled together an variety of professional writers to contribute to the magazine she founded, sharing with the world a huge assortment of unique articles, interviews, reviews that will be industry and consumer friendly. In 2011, She rebranded and created her most recent venture, The Perfume Magazine, an International Fragrance Magazine. Under her ownership, direction and dedication as Editor In Chief, the Magazine has garnered seven Top-Five Finalists for the Fragrance Foundation's FiFi Awards in the category of Editorial Excellence Fragrance Coverage in 2009, 2010, and 2012. The Perfume Magazine (formerly Sniffapalooza Magazine) reaches unique visitors monthly from 190 countries and was the first ever online magazine/blog in history to earn six FiFi Top-Five Finalist for Editorial Excellence Awards.
A former model, beauty queen and professional ballet dancer, she won her first scholarship to the famed Joffrey Ballet at the age of fourteen. Ms. Barkley has an extensive business background that includes executive experience in marketing, fundraising, PR and event management. She served as Artistic and Executive Director for two successful major arts organizations; working with international ballet super stars. Raphaella is also a former artistic director of two professional ballet companies and a choreographer who has directed musicals, television commercials and was a personal manager to dancers from several leading ballet companies (Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Joffrey Ballet) Other interests involve collecting rose fragrances, Raphaella's Roses and she is currently in the process of re-discovering classic and iconic fragrances and working on Part Five of Raphaella’s Rose’s. Raphaella is also a Contributor for Beauty Fashion Magazine, the national industry beauty magazine featuring her popular column, "San Francisco Beat." Ms. Barkley was also the former Editor of the Bond No. 9 Blog, reviewing “The Neighborhoods of New York”. She was also featured in InStyle Magazine, discussing fragrances. She does not listen to unprofessional negative "chatter" on blogs and will always follow her heart and intuition.
Michael Edwards introduced The Perfume Magazine last year at Esxence - The Scent of Excellence in Milan, Italy stating that “The Perfume Magazine is one of the most influential blogs and is part of a new generation”.
The Perfume Magazine.com is the ultimate online fragrance journal and has been recognized as one of the leading perfume magazines with an international readership. The Perfume Magazine, in its first year, celebrated stunning and unsurpassed achievements which included traveling to Milan as Media Partners with Esxence-The Scent of Excellence, one of the top perfume events of the world. The Perfume Magazine also attended Pitti Fragranze in Florence Italy and attended Elements Showcase NYC where they were also a Partner. We took our readers on a journey and attended the French FiFi’s and the American FiFi’s, giving an exciting peek inside the perfume industry. This past year, Editor-in-Chief Raphaella Barkley also had the huge honor of being interviewed by The Fragrance Foundation, the only on-line magazine/blog to have ever been interviewed by them.
THE FRAGRANCE FOUNDATION INTERVIEW:
One of the biggest accomplishments this past year was when The Perfume Magazine walked away again with two of the Top-5 Finalist Editorial Excellence In Fragrance Coverage: Blog or E-Zine FiFi Awards for the Fragrance Foundation’s prestigious FiFi Awards, adding to the previous four top-five finalist nominations garnered by the Magazine in the category of Editorial Excellence in Fragrance Coverage in 2009, 2012 and now 2012, thus making history as the only American publication with seven top-five FiFi Awards for Editorial Excellence.
The Perfume Magazine has also been applauded as the very first perfume website in the world to offer ground breaking articles by fragrance experts such as Michael Edwards and Marian Bendeth.

Under the direction and dedication of Editor-in-Chief Raphaella Barkley, the Perfume Magazine has been read by hundreds of thousands of people in over 150 countries around the world just this past year. Barkley has assembled an International team of passionate and talented journalists who recognize the value of writing ethically about perfume and who all share in The Perfume Magazine's positive and all-inclusive attitude. Our contributors come to us from many countries around the world with correspondents in New York City, Italy, Paris and London. Many of our contributors are internationally published writers; several have been recognized as Top-5 FiFi Award Finalists.
Raphaella believes that fragrance is an art form; magical and healing. She still stops to smell the roses whenever she can.
